The bacteriological quality of drinking water is considered good if the
household drinking water contains 0 coliform bacteria per 100 ml of water sample.
The presence of coliform bacteria in drinking water can lead to digestive disorders
such as diarrhea and acute gastroenteritis. Data from the Alalak Selatan Public
Health Center in 2023 recorded 204 cases of diarrhea in Alalak Selatan Subdistrict.
This study aims to identify the factors affecting the bacteriological quality of MPN
coliform in household drinking water in Alalak Selatan Subdistrict, Banjarmasin
City.
This research is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. Data collection
was conducted using questionnaires, while the drinking water quality was assessed
through laboratory examination. The data analysis method used was the Somers’ D
test.
The research results indicate a significant influence between personal hygiene
(p-value = 0.000), water treatment practices (p-value = 0.000), and storage
conditions (p-value = 0.000) on the bacteriological quality of MPN coliform in
household drinking water in Alalak Selatan Subdistrict, Banjarmasin City.
Based on the research findings, the community should increase awareness of
the importance of personal hygiene, treat drinking water before consumption, and
maintain the cleanliness of water storage containers.
