Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by the presence of Sarcoptes
scabei mites under the skin. The Sanitation Clinic Report for the last 3 years of the
Nurul Hidayah Putera Islamic Boarding School has increased and recurrent
illnesses. The incidence of scabies is 29 cases (2022), 35 cases (2023), 25 cases
(January to July 2024).
This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes
and personal hygiene practices with the incidence of scabies in students at the
Nurul Hidayah Putera Islamic Boarding School, Banjar Regency. The type of
research used observational analytic with a case control design. The sample used
was 50 students living in the dormitory of the Nurul Hidayah Putera Islamic
Boarding School, which was divided into 2 groups, namely 25 people in the case
group with the saturation sampling technique and 25 people in the control group
with the purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate
analysis (chi square).
The results of the study showed that 35 students (70%) had good knowledge,
33 students (66%) had positive attitudes, 34 students (68%) had good personal
hygiene behavior, and 25 students (50%) had scabies. There was a relationship
between knowledge (0,002), attitude (0,017), and personal hygiene actions (0,006)
with the incidence of scabies in students at the Nurul Hidayah Putera Islamic
Boarding School, Banjar Regency in 2024.
Periodic education about scabies in students needs to be carried out using
methods and media that are easy for students to understand. It is recommended that
Islamic Boarding Schools run the Youth Information and Counseling Center (PIK-
R) program, especially regarding health in schools in collaboration with the Health
Center.
