Hubungan Infeksi Kecacingan Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) Dengan
Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) Pada Anak Sekolah Dasar Di SDN Sungai
Rangas Hambuku

mengetahui hubungan infeksi kecacingan Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH)
status gizi lainnya.

ABSTRACT
Correlation Between Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) Helminthiasis
Infection And Body Mass Index (BMI) in Primary School Children at Sungai
Rangas Hambuku Primary School

The prevalence of childhood helminthiasis across Indonesia in children aged 1-12
years is at a high level of 30% to 90%. Infection with helminthiasis can be one of
the causes of nutritional deficiencies in the food that children eat, decreased
immunity, and stunted growth and development of children. The purpose of the
study was to determine the relationship between Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH)
helminth infection and Body Mass Index (BMI) in elementary school children at
Sungai Rangas Hambuku Elementary School. The type of research used in this
study was Analytical Survey with cross sectional research design, the total
population was 171 children. The sample was taken with purposive sampling
technique as many as 136 children. Data on helminthiasis was obtained from
microscopic examination of worm eggs by the Kato-Katz method, the specimen
used was fresh feces. BMI variables were determined from measurements of height
and weight. The results showed 7 respondents (5.1%) found STH eggs as much as
11.5-115 EPG with the findings of Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura
eggs, 18 children (13.2%) found non-STH eggs and 111 respondents (81.6%) did
not find eggs, larvae or adult STH worms, BMI results ranged from 11.7-16.9 with
a very thin category of 117 children, 17.3-18.4 thin category 10 children, and 19.1-
22.8 normal category 9 children. Spearman rank coefficient test results with a value
(p-value 0.039) < (0.05). This study can be concluded that there is a significant
relationship between Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) Infection and Body Mass
Index (BMI) in Primary School Children at Sungai Rangas Hambuku Primary
School.Suggestions for future research are to conduct research on the relationship
between STH helminthiasis infection and other nutritional status parameters.
