Kalium merupakan elektrolit utama cairan intraseluler (terutama otot)
hampir sebanyak 98%. Fungsi kalium membantu dalam pengaturan keseimbangan
cairan elektrolit tubuh. Penurunan kalium dari tubuh terjadi karena hilangnya
kalium dari sel otot selama kontraksi berulang. Oleh karena itu, menjaga
keseimbangan kalium sebagai komponen elektrolit tubuh selama berolahraga dapat
melalui konsumsi minuman isotonik. Minuman isotonik adalah minuman yang
mengandung ion-ion yang sama yang terdapat dalam darah dan sel tubuh sehingga
mudah diserap tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adanya perbedaan
kadar kalium sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi minuman isotonik pada anggota Unit
Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) olahraga basket Jurusan Teknologi Laboratorium
Medis. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimen dengan rancangan one group pre-test
post-test design. Populasi penelitian adalah anggota UKM olahraga basket Jurusan
Teknologi Laboratorium Medis dengan sampel 30 orang menggunakan teknik total
sampling. Rata-rata kadar kalium sebelum dilakukan perlakuan adalah 3,87 mmol/L
dengan rentang 3,4-4,4 mmol/L, rata-rata kadar kalium sesudah perlakuan 4,32
mmol/L dengan rentang 3,9-4,8 mmol/L dan rata-rata selisih kadar kalium antara
sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi minuman isotonik adalah 0,45 mmol/L. Analisis
data menggunakan Dependent T-Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya
perbedaan kadar kalium sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi minuman isotonik dengan
sig 0,000 (p<α). Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah adanya perbedaan kadar kalium
sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi minuman isotonik. Saran untuk penelitian
berikutnya yaitu dapat mengukur kadar kalium sebelum berolahraga agar dapat
diketahui seberapa besar penurunan kalium setelah olahraga.

CONSUMING ISOTONIC DRINKS IN MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT
ACTIVITY UNIT (UKM) BASKETBALL SPORTS DEPARTMENT OF
MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY

Potassium is the main electrolyte of almost 98% of intracellular fluid
(especially muscle). The function of potassium helps in regulating the body's fluid-
electrolyte balance. Depletion of potassium from the body occurs due to loss of
potassium from muscle cells during repeated contractions. Therefore, maintaining
the balance of potassium as a component of the body's electrolyte during exercise
can be done by consuming isotonic drinks. Isotonic drinks are drinks that contain
the same ions found in the blood and body cells so they are easily absorbed by the
body. This study aims to determine the differences in potassium levels before and
after consuming isotonic drinks in members of the basketball sports UKM
Department of Medical Laboratory Technology. This research is experimental by
design one group pre-test post-test design. The research population was members
of the basketball sports UKM Department of Medical Laboratory Technology with
a sample of 30 people using the technique total sampling. The average potassium
level before treatment was 3.87 mmol/L with a value range of 3.4-4.4 mmol/L, the
average potassium level after treatment was 4.32 mmol/L with a value range of 3.9-
4.8 mmol/L and the average difference in potassium levels between before and after
consuming isotonic drinks is 0.45 mmol/L. Data analysis using Dependent T-Test.
The results showed that there was a difference in potassium levels before and after
consuming isotonic drinks with sig 0.000 (p<α). The conclusion of this study is that
there is a difference in potassium levels before and after consuming isotonic drinks.
Suggestions for future research are to measure potassium levels before exercising
so that you can find out how much potassium decreases after exercise.
