HUBUNGAN KADAR MAGNESIUM DENGAN TEKANAN DARAH PADA LANSIA DI POSYANDU LANSIA PUSKESMAS SUNGAI ULIN
XMLABSTRAK
Hubungan Kadar Magnesium dengan Tekanan Darah pada Lansia di
Posyandu Lansia Puskesmas Sungai Ulin

sehingga menyebabkan naiknya tekanan darah.

ABSTRACT
The Relationship between Magnesium Levels and Blood Pressure in the
Elderly at the Elderly Posyandu of Sungai Ulin Health Center

In the elderly, the walls of the arteries thicken and become stiff, which results in
blood having to flow through narrower blood vessels, causing an increase in blood
pressure. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant cation in the body and the second
most abundant intracellular cation after potassium. Magnesium acts as a vasodilator
(widening of the blood vessels). For people with high blood pressure, adequate
magnesium levels are needed to lower blood pressure. This study aims to determine
the relationship between magnesium levels and blood pressure in the elderly at the
elderly posyandu of Sungai Ulin Health Center. This study is an analytic survey
with a cross-sectional design. Examination of magnesium levels using the
colorimetric test method. The average result for examining magnesium levels was
1.59 mg/dL with a normal value for magnesium levels being 1.6-3.0 mg/dL, while
the average result for measuring systolic blood pressure was 142 mmHg with a
normal value of 90-119 mmHg. , and the average diastolic blood pressure was 90
mmHg with a normal value of 60-79 mmHg. The Spearman correlation test results
revealed that the significance value between magnesium levels and systolic and
diastolic blood pressure was (p)=0.000 and (p)=0.005 with the strength of the
relationship (r)= -0.644 and -0.455. The conclusion of this study was that there was
a significant relationship between magnesium levels and systolic (p=0.000) and
diastolic (p=0.005) blood pressure in the elderly at the Elderly Posyandu of the
Sungai Ulin Health Center. An increase in magnesium levels was followed by a
decrease in blood pressure, and conversely a decrease in magnesium levels was
followed by an increase in blood pressure. It was recommended to utilize
information about the importance of magnesium levels for health, especially blood
pressure as an effort to improve health. For further researchers, similar studies could
be carried out in the form of electrolytes with different parameters such as chloride.
