Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH). Terinfeksinya cacing STH menyebabkan
hemoglobin menjadi turun sehingga menimbulkan anemia.
(79,1%) orang lainnya negatif cacing STH.

ABSTRACT
The Correlation Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) Worm Infection and
Hemoglobin Levels in Garbage Workers at TPA Basirih, Banjarmasin City

Intestinal nematodes are a type of worm that lives in the digestive tract of
humans and animals. The type of nematode that often infects in Indonesia is Soil
Transmitted Helminth (STH). Infection with STH worms causes inflammation,
malabsorption, and blood loss in the intestines so that hemoglobin levels drop,
causing anemia. One profession that is vulnerable to the disease is garbage workers.
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of STH helminth
infection to hemoglobin levels in garbage workers at Basirih landfill in Banjarmasin
City. This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional research
design, the number of population and samples as many as 43 people by taking the
total sampling technique. Data on helminthiasis were obtained from microscopic
examination of worm eggs using the Kato-Katz method, with fresh feces specimens.
Hemoglobin level variables were determined from capillary blood examination
with the Point of Care Testing (POCT) method, the normal value of hemoglobin
levels in men is 13.5 - 16.5 g/dL. The results showed that 7 people (16.28%) were
positive for STH worms with an EPG range of 24-72/gr of feces, 2 people (4.65%)
were positive for cestodes, and 34 (79.1%) other people were negative for STH
worms. Hemoglobin levels of 43 samples were found to be 12.6 - 16.5 g/dL and
below normal 7 people 12.6 - 13.4 g/dL. Spearman rank coefficient test results
showed a significant relationship (p-value 0.000 <0.05) between STH helminth
infection and hemoglobin levels. In future studies, the relationship between
intestinal cestode helminthiasis infection and anemia should be investigated.
