group.
media karbon aktif 0 cm, 30 cm, 60 cm, 90 cm. Filter up flow dengan ketebalan
bor.

ABSTRACT
RYESA APRILIANI KHATIMAH'S ESSAY
"EFFECTIVENESS OF ACTIVATED CARBON FILTER THICKNESS
WITH UP FLOW METHOD TO REDUCE IRON (Fe) LEVELS IN
BOREWELL WATER"
(Dr. Tien Zubaidah, S.KM, M.KL and Ir. Sulaiman Hamzani, ST, MT)
XV + 44 Pages ; 9 Tables ; 7 pictures ; 9 Attachments
One source of water that is still widely used is borewell, the quality of
borewell water is influenced by the chemical structure of the soil. Based on the
results of a preliminary test on one of the borewell waters in Banjarbaru City, it
was found that the iron content had exceeded the quality standard. It is necessary
to conduct a research test of making filters with the up flow method in improving
the quality of Fe in bore well water. The purpose of this study was to determine the
effectiveness of the thickness of the activated carbon filter in reducing the Fe
content of borewell water.
This type of research was experimental with pretest-posttest with control
group. The population in this study is all bore well water in the Tempe-Tofu
Original HB industry, Banjarbaru City. The research sample is part of the borewell
water taken for testing.
Based on the results of the examination, it was found that the iron content
before treatment was 4.42 mg/L. The results of the Mann Whitney test output
obtained Asymp Sig. (0.05) means that there are a significant difference between
the two treatment groups in the thickness of the activated carbon filter media 0 cm,
30 cm, 60 cm, 90 cm. Upflow filters with a thickness of 60 cm and 90 cm of activated
carbon with a percentage reduction of 83.26% and 92.53% are filters that are
effective in reducing the iron content of borewell water to meet quality standards.
The community is advised to use an up flow filter with a thickness of 60 cm
activated carbon and vary the water flow and measure the saturation of activated
carbon to be an alternative to reduce iron (Fe) levels in drilled well water.
