Di area perkotaan banyak ditemukan tempat pencucian motor sehingga memerlukan air bersih cukup banyak, penyedia jasa pencucian motor membuang limbah cair pencucian motor ke saluran drainase tanpa adanya instalasi pengolahan limbah. Kandungan senyawa fosfat yang terdapat pada deterjen berkisar antara 70-80 persen. Kadar fosfat yang berlebihan menyebabkan kualitas air menurun. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan menggunakan saringan (Filtrasi) dan sedimentasi. Media saringan yang digunakan yaitu Karbon aktif.
Metode penelitian ini bersifat exsperimental dengan rancangan One Group Pretest Posttest dengan 3 perlakuan yaitu sebelum perlakuan (kadar fosfat), dilakukan perlakukan (variasi ketebalan saringan karbon aktif) dan sesudah perlakuan (kadar fosfat). Pengulangan dilakukan sebanyak 9 kali dengan total 27 sampel.
Hasil analisis kandungan kadar fosfat mengalami penurunan di setiap saringan karbon aktif, ketebalan 20 cm menurunkan sebesar 75,64 persen, ketebalan 30 cm menurunkan sebesar 91,84 persen dan ketebalan 40 cm lebih signifikan menurunkan sebesar 96,76 persen. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik One Way Anova bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari ketiga variasi saringan karbon aktif tersebut karena nilai p (0,000) < (0.05).

In urban areas, there was many motorcycle wash place that required a lot of clean water, motor wash service providers disposed waste into drainage without any sewaage treatment plants, it makes water pollutan. The content of phosphate compounds in detergents was between 70-80 percent. Excessive phosphate levels cause decreased water quality. One effort can be done using a filtration and sedimentation. The filter media were used activated carbon. This study aims to determine the quality of the processing of motorcycle wasted using activated carbon filter thickness variation on phosphate levels.
The research method were experimental with the design of One Group Pretes Posttest with 3 steps which is before trearment (phosphate), treatment (variation in thickness of activated carbon filter) and after treatment (phosphate). The experiment repeated 9 times with total 27 sampels.
The results of analysys of showed that phosphate content decreased in every active carbon filter,with 20cm thickness was decreased around 75,64 percent, thickness 30 cm was 91.84 percent and thickness 40 cm was significantly decreased around 96,67 percent. Based on the result statistic One Way Anova there is a significant diffrences from those three variations activate carbon filter because the pvalue (0,000) < (0,05).
