Infeksi nosokomial merupakan masalah besar yang dihadapi rumah sakit dan dapat disebarkan melalui mikroorganisme. Salah satu mikroorganisme penyebabnya adalah bakteri Staphyloccocus aureus. S. aureus banyak resisten terhadap antibiotik metisilin dan vankomisin hal ini mendorong untuk ditemukannya obat alternatif baru yang berasal dari alam salah satunya kayu manis. Kayu manis (Cinnamomum burmannii) banyak dimanfaatkan masyarakat sebagai bahan masakan dan memiliki kandungan senyawa kimia sepertialkaloid, flavonoid, polifenol, saponin, dan terpenoid yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi hambat minimum dan konsentrasi bunuh minimum ekstrak etanol kayu manis terhadap Staphyloccocus aureus. Penelitian ini bersifat true eksperiment dengan rancangan postest only control group design melalui metode dilusi tabung.Hasil penelitian Konsentrasi Hambat Minimum (KHM) menunjukkan tidak adanya kejernihan pada konsentrasi 10% dan 20%, pada konsentasi 30% menunjukkan adanyasedikit kejernihan dan pada konsentrasi 40% tampak adanya kejernihan. Hasil penelitian Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimum (KBM) diperoleh jumlah koloni pada konsentrasi 10% sebanyak 51 CFU/plate, 20% sebanyak 27 CFU/plate, 30% sebanyak 6 CFU/plate dan 40% sebanyak 0 CFU/plate. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa KHM ekstrak etanol kayu manis adalah 40% dan KBM ekstrak  etanol kayu manis adalah 40%. Disarankan dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut mengenai pengaruh ekstrakkayu manis terhadap bakteri Staphyloccocus aureusdengan menggunakan pelarut lain dan penelitian ini merupakan uji pendahuluan yang dapat dijadikan sebagai dasar dari penelitian selanjutnya.

TEST OF MINIMUM CONCENTRATION AND MINIMUM KILLING CONCENTRATION OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF CINNAMON POWDER (Cinnamomum burmannii) ON GROWTH OF Staphylococcus aureus

Nosocomial infections are a major problem that hospitals face and can be spread through microorganisms. One of the microorganismsis the bacterium Staphyloccocus aureus.S. aureus is much resistant to methicillin and vancomycin antibiotics, which has led to the discovery of new alternative medicines originating from nature, one of them is cinnamon.Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) is widely used by the public as a cooking ingredient and contains chemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, and terpenoids which functioned as antibacterial.This study aims to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of cinnamon ethanol extract on Staphyloccocus aureus. This research is true experiment with posttest only control group design through tube dilution method.The results of the Minimum Inhibition Concentration (MIC) showed no clarity at concentrations of 10% and 20%, while at a concentration of 30% it was indicating a slight clarity and at a concentration of 40%, clarity appeared.The results of the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) obtained the number of colonies at a concentration of 10% as many as 51 CFU/plate, 20% as many as 27 CFU/plate, 30% as many as 6 CFU/plate and 40% as much as0 CFU/plate.Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the MIC of cinnamon ethanol extract is 40% and MBC of cinnamon ethanol extract is 40%. Further research is suggested on the effect of cinnamon extract on Staphyloccocus aureus bacteria by using other solvents and this study is a preliminary test that can be used as the basis of further research.
