Perbandingan Efektivitas Ekstrak Etanol Bawang Putih (Allium sativum L.) terhadap Pertumbuhan Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis

Infeksi Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis merupakan penyebab terjadinya kandidiasis. Pengobatan kandidiasis dapat dilakukan dengan pemberian obat antijamur, salah satunya bawang putih (Allium sativum L.). Bawang putih dipilih sebagai obat herbal karena memiliki kandungan kimia seperti Allicin, flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan minyak atsiri yang berfungsi sebagai antijamur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan efektivitas ekstrak etanol bawang putih terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah true experiment. Rancangan yang digunakan Posttest Only Control Group Design dengan variabel bebas konsentrasi ekstrak etanol bawang putih dan variabel terikat pertumbuhan Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis. Uji statistik yang digunakan adalah Kruskal-Wallis dilanjutkan dengan Mann-Whitney. Uji aktivitas antijamur dilakukan dengan metode dilusi cair. Konsentrasi yang digunakan yaitu 14 mg/mL, 16 mg/mL, 18 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL, 22 mg/mL, 24 mg/mL, 26 mg/mL dan 28 mg/mL. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Konsentrasi Hambat Minimal (KHM) terhadap Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis adalah 16 mg/mL dan 20 mg/mL. Hasil Konsentrasi Bunuh Minimal (KBM) terhadap Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis adalah               18 mg/mL dan 22 mg/mL. Berdasarkan uji Mann-Whitney didapatkan nilai P=0,037 (P<0,05) pada konsentrasi 18 mg/mL sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan efektivitas ekstrak etanol bawang putih terhadap pertumbuhan Candida albicans dan Candida tropicalis. Masyarakat disarankan agar dapat memanfaatkan informasi mengenai bawang putih sebagai dasar pengobatan alternatif kandidiasis.

 ABSTRACT 
 
The Comparison of Garlic (Allium sativum L.) Ethanol Extract Effectiveness on the Growth of Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis

Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis infections are the causes of candidiasis. Candidiasis treatment can be done by giving antifungal drugs, one of which is garlic (Allium sativum L.). Garlic is chosen as a herbal medicine because it has chemical ingredients such as Allicin, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and essential oils that function as antifungals. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of garlic ethanol extract on the growth of Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis. This research is true experiment. This research use Posttest Only Control Group Design with the concentration of garlic ethanol extract as the independent variable and the growth of Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis as the dependent variable. The statistical test used was Kruskal-Wallis, followed by Mann-Whitney. Antifungal activity test was carried out by liquid dilution method. The concentrations used were 14 mg/mL, 16 mg/mL, 18 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL,             22 mg/mL, 24 mg/mL, 26 mg/mL, and 28 mg/mL. The results showed that the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis were 16 mg/mL and 20 mg mL. The Minimal Fungisidal Concentration (MFC) results for Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis were 18 mg/mL and   22 mg/mL. Based on the Mann-Whitney test, P value = 0.037 (P<0.05) at a concentration of 18 mg/mL, so it can be concluded that there is a difference in effectiveness of garlic ethanol extract on the growth of Candida albicans and Candida tropicalis. The community is recommended to use information about garlic as a basis for alternative candidiasis treatment.
