Limbah cair tahu dapat mencemari lingkungan jika dibuang langsung tanpa pengolahan terlebih dahulu, karena mengandung zat organik yang cukup tinggi. Dari beberapa hasil penelitian, kadar COD didalam limbah cair tahu yaitu antara 7.000-10.000 ppm. Salah satu alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk menurunkan kadar COD, yaitu penggunaan serbuk biji asam jawa sebagai koagulan alami yang ramah lingkungan dan ekonomis dengan cara koagulasi flokulasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh penambahan serbuk biji asam jawa terhadap kadar COD limbah cair tahu. Bahan penelitian yang digunakan adalah limbah cair tahu dan biji asam jawa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan, yaitu eksperimen dengan rancangan pretest posttest with control. Rata-rata kadar COD pada limbah cair tahu tanpa penambahan serbuk biji asam jawa sebesar 16898,6 mg/L (0%). Setelah penambahan serbuk biji asam jawa dengan variasi dosis 3 g; 3,5 g; 4 g; 4,5 g; 5 g pada limbah cair tahu, didapatkan hasil rata-rata kadar COD sebesar 15534,1 mg/L (8,1%); 14483,5 mg/L (14,3%); 13749,8 mg/L (18,7%); 13067,5 mg/L (22,7%); 10915,8 mg/L (35,4%). Didapatkan hasil uji statistik One Way Anova dengan nilai p = 0,040 (α <0,05) yang berarti ada pengaruh penambahan serbuk biji asam jawa terhadap kadar COD pada limbah cair tahu. Namun, penurunan kadar COD limbah cair tahu belum efektif sehingga disarankan bagi peneliti selanjutnya untuk meningkatkan dosis serbuk biji asam jawa dan mengolah serbuk dengan ukuran partikel yang lebih halus.

THE UTILIZATION OF TAMARIND SEEDS POWDER (Tamarindus indica, Linn) ON Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) LEVELS OF  LIQUID TOFU WASTE

Tofu liquid waste can pollute the environment if discharge directly without processing, because it contains high enough organic matter. From some research results, COD levels in tofu liquid waste are between 7,000-10,000 ppm. One alternative can be used to reduce COD levels is using tamarind seeds powder as a natural coagulant that is environmentally friendly and economical with coagulation flocculation. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of adding tamarind seeds powder on the COD levels of tofu liquid waste. The research materials used are tofu liquid waste and tamarind seeds. The research method used is experiments and the research type is pretest posttest with control. Average of COD levels in tofu liquid waste without the addition of tamarind seeds powder was 16898.6 mg/L (0%). After adding tamarind seeds powder with a doses variation of 3 g; 3.5 g; 4 g; 4.5 g; 5 g in tofu liquid waste, the average of COD levels results were 15534.1 mg/L (8.1%); 14483.5 mg/L (14.3%); 13749.8 mg/L (18.7%); 13067.5 mg/L (22.7%); 10915.8 mg/L (35.4%). The result of One Way Anova Test with a value p = 0,040 (α <0,05), which means  there was the effect of adding tamarind seeds powder to COD levels in tofu liquid waste. However, the reduction in COD levels of tofu liquid waste has not been effective, so it’s recommended for next researchers to increase the dose of tamarind seeds powder and processing powder with finer particle size.
