Berdasarkan data Puskesmas Guntung Manggis Tahun 2022 dilakukan 
penjaringan di SMPN 8 Banjarbaru. Menghasilkan sebanyak 56,4% siswa 
mengalami karies gigi. Salah satu yang mempengaruhi terjadinya karies gigi adalah 
konsumsi makanan yang mengandung gula. Biskuit coklat merupakan jenis 
makanan yang mengandung karbohidrat serta gula sederhana yang banyak 
dikonsumsi oleh anak-anak usia sekolah. Mengonsumsi makanan kaya karbohidrat 
dapat menyebabkan terjadinya proses fermentasi yang dilakukan oleh bakteri atau 
mikroorganisme yang menyebabkan perubahan pada pH saliva. 
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh berkumur air mineral 
dengan pH saliva setelah mengonsumsi karbohidrat sederhana (biskuit coklat). 
Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi experiment. Rancangan penelitian 
yang digunakan adalah one group pretest posttest, populasi penelitian 237 siswa, 
sampel penelitian yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling sebanyak 54 
siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan uji statistik Paired T-Test. 
Hasil penelitian diperoleh pH saliva sebelum berkumur air mineral setelah 
mengonsumsi  makanan karbohidrat sederhana (biskuit coklat) 6,37 dan pH saliva 
sesudah berkumur air mineral setelah mengonsumsi karbohidrat sederhana (biscuit 
coklat) 6,80. Hasil dari uji Paired T-Test dengan nilai p (p= 0,00 < a= 0,05),  maka 
Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. 
Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini, ada pengaruh berkumur air mineral dengan 
pH saliva setelah mengonsumsi makanan karbohidrat sederhana (biskuit coklat) 
pada siswa kelas IX G & H SMPN 8 Banjarbaru Kecamatan Landasan Ulin Kota 
Banjarbaru. Disarankan siswa dapat membiasakan diri untuk berkumur air mineral 
setelah mengonsumsi makanan karbohidrat sederhana.

Based on data from the Guntung Manggis Community Health Center in 2022, 
screening was carried out at SMPN 8 Banjarbaru. This resulted in 56.4% of 
students experiencing dental caries. One thing that influences the occurrence of 
dental caries is the consumption of foods that contain sugar. Chocolate biscuits are 
a type of food that contains carbohydrates and simple sugars which are widely 
consumed by school-aged children. Consuming foods rich in carbohydrates can 
cause a fermentation process carried out by bacteria or microorganisms which 
causes changes in saliva pH. 
This study aims to determine the effect of gargling mineral water on saliva 
pH after consuming simple carbohydrates (chocolate biscuits). The type of research 
used is quasi experiment. The research design used was one group pretest posttest, 
the research population was 237 students, the research sample taken using 
purposive sampling technique was 54 students. This research uses the Paired T
Test statistical test. 
The research results showed that the pH of saliva before gargling mineral 
water after consuming simple carbohydrate foods (chocolate biscuits) was 6.37 and 
the pH of saliva after gargling mineral water after consuming simple carbohydrates 
(chocolate biscuits) was 6.80. The results of the Paired T-Test with a p value (p= 
0.00 < a= 0.05), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. 
The conclusion of this research is that there is an effect of gargling with 
mineral water on the pH of saliva after consuming simple carbohydrate foods 
(chocolate biscuits) in class IX G & H students at SMPN 8 Banjarbaru, Landasan 
Ulin District, Banjarbaru City. It is recommended that students get used to gargling 
with mineral water after consuming simple carbohydrate foods.
