PROBIOTIC SOLUTION

Sasirangan is a traditional fabric industry typical of South Kalimantan 
which also drives the regional economy. The Sasirangan industry involves coloring 
and dyeing processes which if not handled properly can produce environmental 
pollutant waste containing high levels of COD. COD is the amount of oxygen 
needed to chemically oxidize organic substances in liquid waste by utilizing an 
oxidizer, namely potassium dichromate as a source of oxygen. Waste with high 
COD levels can interfere with the health of humans and aquatic animals so it must 
be processed first in order to meet the COD quality standard for textile liquid waste
according to Pergub Kalsel No. 36 of 2008 which is 150 mg/L. One of the waste 
treatment methods is the bioremediation method with probiotic solutions. The 
purpose of this study was to determine the description of COD levels in the liquid 
waste of sasirangan industry after adding probiotic solution. This type of research
is descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional research design. Sasirangan waste 
samples were taken from Sasirangan Village, Sungai Jingah, Banjarmasin City, 
then measured and obtained COD levels of 378,1 mg/L. After that, they were treated 
with 0.5% and 1% probiotic solutions for 3 days. Then the results obtained of COD 
levels of 347,5 mg/L at a concentration of 0.5% and 189.5 mg/L at a concentration 
of 1%. It was concluded that probiotic solutions can reduce COD levels with the 
largest percentage decrease of 49.9% at a concentration of 1%. It is recommended 
in later studies to examine the effectiveness of probiotic bacteria and increase 
variations in the length of soaking and concentration of probiotics. In addition, 
research can be carried out with other parameters such as Pb, Cr, and Cd.

GAMBARAN KADAR Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) PADA LIMBAH 
INDUSTRI SASIRANGAN SETELAH PEMBERIAN 
LARUTAN PROBIOTIK

Sasirangan adalah industri kain tradisional khas Kalimantan Selatan yang 
turut menggerakkan roda perekonomian daerah. Industri sasirangan melibatkan 
proses pewarnaan dan pencelupan yang apabila tidak ditangani dengan baik dapat 
menghasilkan limbah pencemar lingkungan yang mengandung kadar COD yang 
tinggi. COD merupakan jumlah oksigen yang diperlukan untuk mengoksidasi zat 
organik dalam limbah cair secara kimiawi dengan memanfaatkan oksidator yaitu 
kalium dikromat sebagai sumber oksigen. Limbah dengan kadar COD tinggi dapat 
mengganggu kesehatan manusia dan hewan perairan sehingga harus diolah terlebih 
dahulu agar memenuhi baku mutu COD limbah cair tekstil menurut Pergub Kalsel 
No. 36 Tahun 2008 yaitu 150 mg/L. Salah satu metode pengolahan limbah yaitu 
metode bioremediasi dengan larutan probiotik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk 
mengetahui gambaran kadar COD pada limbah industri sasirangan setelah 
pemberian larutan probiotik. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitik dengan 
rancangan penelitian cross sectional. Sampel limbah sasirangan diambil dari 
Kampung Sasirangan Sungai Jingah Kota Banjarmasin kemudian diukur dan 
didapat hasil kadar COD sebesar 378,1 mg/L. Setelah itu diberi perlakuan 
perendaman dengan larutan probiotik konsentrasi 0,5% dan 1% selama 3 hari. 
Kemudian didapat hasil kadar COD 347,5 mg/L pada konsentrasi 0,5% dan 189,5 
mg/L pada konsentrasi 1%. Disimpulkan bahwa larutan probiotik dapat 
menurunkan kadar COD dengan persentase penurunan terbesar sebanyak 49,9% 
pada konsentrasi 1%. Disarankan pada penelitian selanjutnya untuk meneliti 
mengenai efektivitas bakteri probiotik dan menambah variasi lama perendaman dan 
konsentrasi probiotik. Selain itu, dapat dilakukan penelitian dengan parameter lain 
seperti Pb, Cr, dan Cd.
