Pengaruh Arang Aktif dari Tulang Ikan Gabus (Channa striata) terhadap 
Kadar Besi Total pada Air Sungai Desa Mekar Sari Kecamatan Tatah Makmur
Kabupaten Banjar

Kandungan besi (Fe) yang ditemukan di Air Sungai Desa Mekar Sari Kecamatan Tatah 
Makmur Kabupaten Banjar Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan masih cukup tinggi yaitu 
sebesar 1,04 mg/L, sedangkan baku mutu yang dianjurkan adalah maksimal 0,3 mg/L. 
Arang aktif dapat mengadsorpsi ion ferro dan ion ferri, tergantung pada besar atau 
volume pori-pori dan luas permukaan. Tulang ikan gabus (Channa striata)
mengandung karbon amorph, sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai bahan untuk membuat 
arang aktif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh arang aktif tulang 
ikan gabus terhadap kadar besi total pada Air Sungai Desa Mekar Sari Kecamatan 
Tatah Makmur Kabupaten Banjar. Jenis penelitian ini yaitu eksperimen dengan 
rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain pretest-posttest. Pretest adalah 
pengukuran kadar besi total sebelum penambahan arang aktif (0 g) tulang ikan gabus
(Channa striata), sedangkan posttest adalah pengukuran kadar besi total setelah
penambahan arang aktif tulang ikan gabus sebanyak 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, 4 g dan 5 g. Hasil 
penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata kadar besi total yang diberi perlakuan perendaman 
selama 60 menit dengan massa 0 g = 0.38 mg/L, 1 g = 0.32 mg/L, 2 g = 0.28 mg/L, 
3 g = 0.185 mg/L, 4 g = 0.11 mg/L, dan 5 g = 0.07 mg/L. Kesimpulan penelitian ini 
adalah terdapat pengaruh arang aktif tulang ikan gabus terhadap besi besi total dalam 
air sungai. Penelitian dapat dilanjutkan tentang variasi metode perendaman arang aktif 
terhadap kadar besi total.

ABSTRACT
Effect of Activated Charcoal from Snakehead Fish Bone (Channa striata) on 
Total Iron Levels in River Water in Mekar Sari, Tatah Makmur District, Banjar 
Regency

The iron (Fe) content found in the river water of Mekar Sari Village, Tatah Makmur 
District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan Province is still quite high, namely 1.04 
mg/L, while the recommended quality standard is a maximum of 0.3 mg/L. Activated 
charcoal can adsorb ferrous ions and ferric ions, depending on the size or volume of 
the pores and surface area. Snakehead fish bone (Channa striata) contains amorphous 
carbon, so it can be used as an ingredient to make activated charcoal. The purpose of 
this study was to determine the effect of activated charcoal from snakehead fish bones
toward total iron levels in the River Water of Mekar Sari Village, Tatah Makmur 
District, Banjar Regency. This type of research is experimental with the research design 
used is the pretest-posttest design. The pretest was a measurement of the total iron 
content before the addition of activated charcoal (0 g) of snakehead fish bone (Channa 
striata), while the posttest was a measurement of the total iron content after the addition 
of 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, 4 g, and 5 g of snakehead fish bone activated charcoal. The results 
showed that the average total iron content was treated by soaking for 60 minutes with 
a mass of 0 g = 0.38 mg/L, 1 g = 0.32 mg/L, 2 g = 0.28 mg/L, 3 g = 0.185 mg/L, 
4 g = 0.11 mg/L, and 5 g = 0.07 mg/L. The conclusion of this study is that there is an 
effect of activated charcoal from snakehead fish bones on total iron levels in river 
water. Research can be continued on the variation of activated charcoal immersion 
method on total iron content.
