“KEMAMPUAN SODA ASH DAN MEDIA FILTER SINTETIS DALAM 
MENINGKATKAN KUALITAS AIR BERSIH DI RUMAH TANGGA”

Metode pengolahan air saat ini sangat beragam, diantaranya adalah metode 
netralisasi dan metode filtrasi. Dalam penelitian ini bahan yang digunakan pada 
proses netralisasi adalah soda ash, sedangkan filtrasi menggunakan media filter 
sintetis. Metode ini digunakan untuk memperbaiki kualitas air bersih di rumah 
tangga pada parameter kekeruhan dan pH.
Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimen dengan jenis rancangan Pretest-postest 
with control group untuk mengetahui perubahan yang terjadi akibat penambahan 
soda ash dan filtrasi menggunakan media filter sintetis pada kekeruhan dan pH 
air sungai. Variasi media filter sintetis yang digunakan yaitu tanpa media filter, 
busa catridge, kain, kapas, dan kombinasi jenis media filter.
Kekeruhan sebelum perlakuan sebesar 42 NTU dengan pH sebesar 3,8. 
Setelah di netralisasi menggunakan 10 gram soda ash pH air sungai menjadi 7,5. 
Setelah dilakukan filtrasi dengan ketebalan media 60 cm kekeruhan mengalami 
penurunan menjadi 36,55 NTU, 18,26 NTU, 3,89 NTU, 10,75 NTU, dan 7,9
NTU, dengan persentase penurunan 13%, 57%, 91%, 74%, dan 84%. Hasil
analisis statistik menujukkan ada perbedaan tiap jenis media filter sintetis 
terhadap penurunan tingkat kekeruhan dan tidak ada perbedaan tiap jenis media 
filter sintetis terhadap kualitas pH air sungai Anjir Pasar.
Pada penelitian selanjutnya diharapkan dapat meneliti lebih lanjut terhadap 
penggunaan dosis soda ash pada tingkat kekeruhan dan pH yang berbeda-beda,
pengaruh penambahan soda ash terhadap tingkat kekeruhan, efektivitas jenis 
media filter sintetis lainnya dalam menurunkan tingkat kekeruhan.

The current water treatment methods are very diverse, including the 
neutralization method and the filtration method. In this research, the material 
used in the neutralization process is soda ash, while the filtration uses synthetic 
filter media. This method is used to improve the quality of clean water in the 
household on the parameters of turbidity and pH.
This research is an experimental type of pretest-posttest with control group 
design to determine the changes that occur due to the addition of soda ash and 
filtration using synthetic filter media on the turbidity and pH of river water. 
Variations of synthetic filter media used are without filter media, cartridge foam, 
cloth, cotton, and a combination of filter media types.
Turbidity before treatment was 42 NTU with a pH of 3.8. After being 
neutralized using 10 grams of soda ash, the pH of the river water became 7.5. 
After filtration with a media thickness of 60 cm, the turbidity decreased to 36.55 
NTU, 18.26 NTU, 3.89 NTU, 10.75 NTU, and 7.9 NTU, with the percentage 
reductions of 13%, 57%, 91%, 74%, and 84%. The results of statistical analysis 
show that there is a difference between each type of synthetic filter media in 
reducing the level of turbidity and there is no difference between each type of 
synthetic filter media on the pH quality of the Anjir Pasar river water.
In future research, it is hoped that further research can be carried out on 
the use of soda ash doses at different levels of turbidity and pH, the effect of 
adding soda ash on turbidity levels, the effectiveness of other types of synthetic 
filter media in reducing turbidity levels.
