Rumah sakit merupakan penghasil limbah terbesar sarana kesehatan. Limbah cair yang dihasilkan dari aktivitas rumah sakit bersifat variatif dan umumnya bersifat infeksius, seperti limbah yang berasal dari penderita rawat inap, salah satu zat pencemar lingkungan adalah amonia nitrogen. Secara biologi pengolahan limbah cair dengan cara fitoremediasi menggunakan tanaman eceng gondok mampu menyerap berbagai zat berbahaya yang dapat mencemari perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan teknologi fitoremediasi menggunakan tanaman eceng gondok dalam memperbaiki kualitas kadar amonia nitrogen limbah cair rumah sakit.
Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental, menggunakan desain Rancangan Posttest Only Control Group Design. Jumlah sampel penelitian ini adalah 48 sampel dengan 3 kali pengulangan. Analisis data menggunakan uji Two Way Anova untuk mengetahui perbedaan penurunan kadar amonia nitrogen (NH3-N), pada limbah cair rumah sakit terhadap variasi berat tanaman eceng gondok (0 gram, 200 gram, 400 gram, dan 600 gram) dengan waktu kontak (0 hari, 2 hari, 4 hari, dan 6 hari). 
Hasil penelitian ini diketahui tidak ada perbedaan antara penurunan kadar amonia nitrogen pada limbah cair rumah sakit, khususnya pada variasi berat dan waktu kontak menggunakan eceng gondok. Hasil rata-rata sesudah perlakuan menggunakan tanaman eceng gondok pada variasi berat dan waktu kontak adalah sebesar 48,94 mg/L, variasi berat optimum adalah 200 gram lebih efektif dan waktu kontak optimum adalah 2 hari lebih efektif.
Peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan dapat memperhatikan sumber pencemar dan bahan yang terkandung dalam limbah cair rumah sakit, sehingga eceng gondok mampu tumbuh dan menyerap zat pencemar pada limbah cair rumah sakit.

The hospital is the biggest waste producer of health facilities. Liquid waste that produced from hospital activities is varied and generally infectious, such as waste originating from inpatients, one of the environmental pollutants is ammonia nitrogen. Biologically, wastewater treatment by phytoremediation using Eichornia crassipes plants are able to absorb various harmful substances that can pollute waters. This research was aimed for knowing the capability of phytoremediation technology using Eichornia crassipes plant in repairing the quality of ammonia nitrogen levels in hospital wastewater.
The type of this research was an experimental study, using a plan design Posttest Only Control Group Design. The amounts of this sample was 48 samples with 3 times repetition. Data analysis used the Two Way Anova test for knowing differences in decreasing levels of ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N), in hospital wastewater to the variation of Eichornia crassipes weight (0 gram, 200 gram, 400 gram, and 600 gram) by contact time (0 day, 2 days, 4 days, and 6 days).
The results of this research known that there is no difference between the reduction in ammonia nitrogen levels in hospital wastewater, especially in the variation in weight and contact time using Eichornia crassipes. The average result after the act of using Eichornia crassipes on variations in weight and contact time was 48.94 mg/L, the optimum weight variation was 200 grams more effective and the optimum contact time was 2 days more effective.
The researcher next is expected to pay attention to the source of pollutants and materials contained in hospital wastewater, so that Eichornia crassipes is able to grow and absorb pollutants in hospital wastewater.
